Primrose Nature Club


The Primrose Nature Club of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara, the first and foremost nature related club of the college, was established in 1982 by Dr. V. J. Dominic (former Head of the Department of Botany). The club is aimed to inculcate and develop an interest in nature among the students and society through meetings, talks, workshops, field studies and publications. The club is registered with the Nature Clubs of India, the Youth Movement of World Wide Fund for Nature (YM-WWF) in 1991 (Reg. No. S-KER/2728). The club
has been organizing several programmes inside and outside the campus since its inception. The usual activities include celebration of environment related days, exhibition of medicinal plants, observation of the Malayalam month Karkkidakam, field studies, trekking, organic farming, nature friendly class room competition, conducting seminars, workshops and invited talks. The club activities were recognised by various organizations and conferred various awards like ‘Palathulli’ Award of Malayala Manorama in 2006, State Level
Best College Nature Club Award for two times by Cochin refineries, National Environmental Awareness Award in 2008, State Biodiversity Award by Kerala Biodiversity Board in 2018.
