EBIN PADIYARA JOY
Mr. Ebin Padiyara Joy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara, Kochi, where he has been serving since 2016. He also currently serves as the Curator of the FAH (Fr. Aquinas Herbarium) at the college.
He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Botany at St Thomas College, Pala (2009–2014), affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, and secured the First Rank in M.Sc. Botany. He qualified for the GATE 2014 and the UGC–CSIR NET in June 2014. He is presently pursuing his PhD at the University of Calicut, specialising in the phylogeny of angiosperms.
His principal area of expertise is Plant Systematics. He has delivered more than 30 invited lectures at workshops, seminars, and conferences on subjects related to plant taxonomy and career opportunities in botany. He provides consultancy services in plant identification, medicinal plant surveys, and biodiversity assessment. He also offers internship opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students in plant systematics and molecular phylogeny.
He has completed several research and consultancy projects, including five biodiversity assessment studies for the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, a research project for the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, and an environmental impact assessment for the Haritha Kerala Mission, Government of Kerala. He is an active member of the Technical Support Group of the Kerala State Biodiversity Board and the Biodiversity Management Committee of the Cochin Corporation.
He has published 8 Scopus-indexed journal articles, 3 conference proceedings, 1 book chapter, and 4 popular science articles. He has also described two new species from the Western Ghats.
