About
The Department of Environmental Studies, established in 2016, has emerged as a vibrant centre for education and research dedicated to addressing contemporary global environmental challenges. The department offers a Postgraduate Programme in Environmental Science (M.Sc.) and ignites environmental curiosity in undergraduates through our multidisciplinary course and various minor courses.
Our approach is integrated and holistic, uniquely bridging the natural and social sciences to train professionals in both technical and policy solutions for environmental crises. Core focus areas include Climate Change, Biodiversity Conservation, Pollution Remediation, Waste Management, Environment Impact Assessment and Sustainable Resource Management, fortified by high-tech skills like Remote Sensing (RS) and GIS.
Experiential learning is a cornerstone of our curriculum. Students gain unparalleled hands-on expertise through semester-long field studies covering crucial ecosystems: Freshwater, Marine, Mangrove, and Forest. This is enhanced by a multi-semester case study on ecosystem restoration and vital industry exposure through visits to waste and water treatment plants.
The Department’s commitment extends to local conservation via the Adopt-a-Mangrove initiative and water resource management at selected adopted villages, serving as a living laboratory for student training. We aim to cultivate forward-thinking professionals equipped with the knowledge and ethical values essential for leading the transition to sustainable development.
