About

The Department of Aquaculture at Sacred Heart College, Thevara has been at the forefront of education and training in Aquaculture and Fish Processing for over three decades. Established in 1994 during the Golden Jubilee of the College, the Department began with a Postgraduate Diploma in Aquaculture and Fish Processing. With the growing importance of aquaculture in food security and employment, the programme was upgraded to a Postgraduate Degree (M.Sc.) in 2004 under the self-financing stream. In 2021, the Department expanded further with the introduction of an aided postgraduate programme, strengthening its commitment to accessible and quality higher education.

Facilities

The Department is equipped with modern infrastructure to support teaching, training, and research. Facilities include:

  • A well-equipped research laboratory with advanced microscopes, high-precision weighing machines, and essential instruments for aquaculture and fisheries studies.
  • A departmental museum showcasing diverse fish specimens for enhanced learning.
  • A functional hatchery facility for hands-on training in fish breeding and seed production.
  • Well-equipped classrooms with smart boards to provide an interactive and technology-enabled learning experience.

  • M.Sc. Aquaculture and Fish Processing (Self-Financing) – 20 seats
