Chavara Excellence Lecture Series 2026 “Upholding Constitutional Values: Profound Politics is the Need of the Hour, Says Yogendra Yadav”

KOCHI: Eminent political thinker, election observer, and National Convenor of Bharat Jodo Abhiyaan, Yogendra Yadav, has called for a shift toward "profound politics" rooted in morality and constitutional integrity. Speaking at the St. Chavara Excellence Lecture Series held at Sacred Heart College auditorium in Thevara on Monday, Yadav emphasized that the country’s current challenges require a deeper engagement with the foundational values of the nation rather than the superficiality often seen in modern political discourse.

Addressing a gathering of students and faculty, Yadav highlighted the importance of the four pillars of the Indian Constitution: Secularism, Socialism, Democracy, and Federalism. He reminded the audience that India’s strength lies in its diversity, noting that peaceful coexistence and mutual respect are non-negotiable for the nation's survival. However, he also issued a stern warning against the "determined onslaught" on these values, urging the public to remain vigilant against ongoing attempts to undermine the country’s secular and federal fabric.

Reflecting on the legacy of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, Yadav observed that the saint's models of social reform remain profoundly relevant in the current political landscape. He expressed deep concern over the state of the nation, remarking that it is "extremely regrettable" that the current generation is poised to hand over a country in a more fragile state than the one inherited from its predecessors.

The event, organized by Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), also saw participation from Fr. Varghese Kachappilly (Manager, SH Institutions), Dr. C.S. Biju (Principal), Fr. Joseph Kusumalyam (Vice Principal), Prof. K.V. Thomas, and Dr. Jinu George, with Dr. Roby Cherian delivering the vote of thanks.
