Zoology Nature Camp for Minor Students

The Zoology Department of Sacred Heart College, Thevara organized a nature camp at Shendureny Wildlife Sanctuary, Thenmala, from October 9th to 11th. The camp was designed for minor students from Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, Economics, and Sociology, providing them an immersive experience in wildlife conservation, ecosystem dynamics, and interdisciplinary learning to explore biodiversity and ecosystem functions in a protected area and foster environmental awareness beyond classroom learning. 42 students of different streams participated in the camp and 3 staffs accompanied the students. Nature Walks with the help of guided treks through sanctuary trails observing flora, fauna, and various ecological habitats were done and students participated in spot identification of plants, insects, and animal signs as a practical knowledge. Talks on wildlife conservation, human-wildlife conflict, and sustainable ecosystem management were given by the forest officials. The nature camp at Shendureny Wildlife Sanctuary was a resounding success, with active student participation and effective staff guidance. It served as a multidisciplinary platform for learning and environmental stewardship. The camp also inspired many students to pursue further studies and activities in ecology, sustainability, and conservation.
