Visit to Department of Science & Technology, Kavaratti – Lakshadweep (28-01-2026)

As part of the SEM II Marine Ecosystem Field Study (2025–2026), students of the Department of Environmental Studies undertook an academic field visit to the Department of Science & Technology, Kavaratti, under the Administration of Lakshadweep, Government of India. The students had an interactive session with Dr. Idress Babu, Scientist at the Department of Science & Technology, U.T. of Lakshadweep, who provided valuable insights into ongoing scientific research, marine biodiversity conservation initiatives, and climate-related challenges faced by island ecosystems. During the visit, students were given access to the laboratory facilities, where preserved marine specimens including corals, shells, and other reef-associated organisms were displayed and explained in detail. The exposure helped students understand species identification, coral morphology, reef ecology, and the importance of scientific documentation in marine conservation. The interaction bridged classroom learning with real-world scientific practice and offered students an opportunity to engage directly with experts working in island-based environmental management.
