Ozone (O3)-Climate Dynamics in Atmospheric Science and Engineering (19-09-2025)
The Department of Environmental Studies, in collaboration with the ENCON Club, organized a special event to commemorate World Ozone Day with an invited lecture by Dr. Saji Baby, Professor and Program Director, Department of Sustainability Studies, MIT-World Peace University, Pune. The lecture, titled “Ozone (O₃)-Climate Dynamics in Atmospheric Science and Engineering,” offered an in-depth exploration of the intricate connections between the ozone layer and global climate systems. Dr. Baby explained the scientific principles underlying atmospheric processes and emphasized the ozone layer’s essential function in shielding life from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
He further discussed the engineering challenges and innovative approaches required to sustain atmospheric balance and mitigate ozone depletion. The session highlighted the importance of scientific research, technological innovation, and policy interventions in addressing ozone-related issues and climate change.
The event successfully engaged students and faculty in meaningful discussions on sustainable environmental practices. It fostered awareness about individual and collective responsibility in preserving atmospheric health. The powerful message — “Our actions today determine our tomorrow” — served as a reminder of the need for continued environmental vigilance.
