Field Study – Forest Ecosystem at Parambikulam Tiger Reserve (2025)

The M.Sc. Environmental Science students of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara, conducted a field study at Parambikulam Tiger Reserve to gain hands-on experience in forest ecosystem monitoring and biodiversity assessment. The objectives included examining the reserve’s forest ecosystem, analyzing the physico-chemical properties of soils from Semi-Evergreen, Moist Deciduous, Teak, and Vayal ecosystems, and evaluating biodiversity across these habitats. Students carried out field sampling, ecological observations, and biodiversity documentation under expert guidance. The study enhanced their understanding of ecosystem functioning, soil-vegetation relationships, and conservation practices within one of Kerala’s most ecologically rich protected areas.
