A seminar on Career Opportunities in Clinical Research & Medical Coding was held on 25th June at Fr. Melesius Hall, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Kochi. The event was jointly organized by the Departments of Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany, aiming to enlighten students on emerging career paths in the fields of medical coding and clinical research. The event was coordinated by Dr. Aghil Soorya A., Assistant Professor (Guest) of Department of Botany. A total of 158 participants, comprising final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students from the respective departments, along with their faculty members, actively participated in the seminar. Mr. Alex Sebastian, Senior Anton’s Medical Code trainer, from Anton’s Medicode, Angamaly introduced the students to the world of medical coding, its relevance in the global healthcare system, and the job opportunities that exist in both domestic and international markets. He emphasized the skills and certifications required, offering guidance on career advancement. Mrs. Fanny Mathew, Director, and Mrs. Farseen O. M., Academic Councellor from Clinomic, Kochi covered fundamentals of clinical trials, research methodologies, industry regulations, and the growing scope for life science graduates in clinical roles. They also provided valuable insights into the various training and placement pathways available in the sector. Both the session was highly interactive, with students asking pertinent questions regarding career paths, skill development, and industry demands. The seminar successfully achieved its objective of broadening students’ awareness about alternative careers in clinical and health information sciences. The seminar concluded at 3.30 pm.
