World Environment Day Observation 2025

The Department of Environmental Studies, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara, in association with the Organic Charitable Trust of Kerala, observed World Environment Day 2025 from June 5th to 30th under the UNEP theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.” The month-long celebration aimed to promote environmental awareness, civic responsibility, and sustainable living through a wide range of activities. The programme began with an inaugural session highlighting the urgency of addressing plastic pollution and included awareness campaigns, workshops, and seminars on plastic management and sustainable alternatives. Initiatives like the Plastic-Free Campus Drive and community outreach programs further reinforced the college’s commitment to sustainability. Various student activities such as essay writing and painting competitions encouraged creative participation. As part of the competitions, Ms. Essra Kaleel from St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, and Ms. Meera Abdul Karim from Nirmala College of Pharmacy, Muvattupuzha, won the First and Second Prizes in the Inter-College Essay Writing Competition, while Evan Antonio Libyn from SH CMI Public School, Thevara, and Meenakshi Nishith from Bhavans Aadarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, secured the top prizes in the Inter-School Painting Competition. The celebration concluded with a valedictory session reaffirming the institution’s dedication to environmental stewardship and a sustainable, plastic-free future.
