Sacred Heart College Launches Indigenous Mango Sapling Plantation Drive as Part of Environment Day 2026 Celebrations

As part of the Environment Day 2026 celebrations, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara, launched a plantation drive focusing on the cultivation of indigenous mango saplings on the campus. The initiative aims to promote biodiversity conservation, enhance green cover, and create awareness about the importance of preserving native tree species.

The plantation drive was jointly inaugurated by College Manager Rev. Fr. Vargeese Puthussery, Principal Prof. Franklin J., and Ward Councillor Elizabeth. The dignitaries planted the first saplings, marking the commencement of the programme.

The initiative was organized through the collaborative efforts of the Departments of Botany and Zoology, the Sustainable Development Office (SDO), and the Nature Club. Faculty members, students, and volunteers actively participated in the programme, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological stewardship.

The plantation of indigenous mango varieties is expected to contribute to the conservation of native biodiversity while fostering a greener and more sustainable campus environment for future generations.
