Use and Promotion of Bicycles

As part of its green policy and motto: GO GREEN, GROW GREEN, the students are encouraged to use bicycle for commuting to the college. Those students and staff who regularly use bicycle for the purpose are honored during the college day. The Principal also uses a bicycle for travelling in and around the campus, to set an example. A dozen bicycles are maintained by the college, giving free access to the students and staff to use them for their
local commuting once they come to campus. Special preference for parking the bicycles is given. College (along with many others) has pressed the urban policy makers on various fora to introduce bicycle lanes in the city, which has come to be a reality recently. A bicycle club functions under the banner HEARTIAN BIKERS, with its flagship programme EXPLORURATION – periodic bicycle rides to explore the rural beauty of Kochi and neighbouring hamlets. Occasionally, bicycle rallies are organized in connection with
important national days like independence day, environment day, Gandhi Jayanti etc. A four day 250 km rally with a message of waste reduction and go green was held in connection with platinum jubilee, involving 75 staff & students.
