Urja Kiran an energy conservation campaign
An awareness lecture was held at Konthuruthi yesterday evening under the auspices of Snehatheeram Residence Association as part of the Urja kiran activities conducted by our college.Rev. Dr. Prasanth Palackappallil (Principal, SHC) felicitated the event. Dr. Mathew George of the Department of Physics gave the awareness lecture. About 100 people attended the event which was followed by a demonstration on energy conservation / electrical power consumption.The support extended by Mr. P M Joseph (Secretary SRA and a college staff), C K Peter corporation Councillor, Dr. Siby Mathew (staff secretary) is gratefully acknowledged.

MR Arjun won the Iran international Challenge (Badminton), which helped him to reach his career best ranking of 53. He is now in the world ranking qualification race in which top two doubles team from India will qualify for the world championship to be held in Glasgow.

Urja Kiran - 2017.
Urja Kiran is an energy conservation awareness campaign of the government of Kerala. 

An awareness lecture was held at Pandit Karuppan Hall, Thevara today as part of the Urja kiran activities conducted by our college. Dr. Mathew George of the department of Physics gave the lecture. Jolly Lukose Endowment Quiz
The Jolly Lukose Endowment Quiz competition was held at the Marian Hall on 16-02-2017. Dr. Jimmy Sebastian of Physics Department served as the quiz master. The first, second and third prizes were bagged by the team from U C College, S H Thevara and St. Albert's College, respectively. Prof. Jolly Lukose gave away the prizes. The activity was conducted by the Physics association.

Our NSS Unit is organising a seven day special camp at Kudayathoor near Thodupuzha. The camp aims to provide awareness on Swach Bharath, Organic Farming and Professionalism in jobs. The volunteers will clean public places, and will give awareness classes to the public on Energy Conservation. The camp will also provide training to the public on CPR and Life Skill Development.

The Dr. Dan Thottakkara National Seminar was launched by the P.G. Department of English, Sacred Heart College, Thevara, in the year 2000 to revitalize the memory of the late scholar, Rev. Dr. Dan Thottakkara. Since its inception, the seminar has focused on frontier areas in literary studies and critical theories and has attracted scholars from all over India. 

This year’s seminar, titled Body as Text: Praxis, Politics and Polemics of Incorporation, is conceived to address the problematics of body cultures. The seminar features three plenary sessions and a performance by Mallika Taneja.

Buses usually take 10 to 15 minutes to reach our college from Ernakulum south.Accommodation will be arranged on request outside the campus. Please note that lunch and refreshments will be served during TWO seminar days. No breakfast and dinner will be arranged for the attendees of the seminar. However participants can avail breakfast and dinner from our college canteen.

As part of the Vigilance Awareness Week, Customs Dept and Speakers forum jointly conduct a debate competition for the students of Sacred Heart College Thevara on 31st  Monday October 2016 at 3.30 pm in Fr. Melesius Hall. 

The topic of the debate is “Can the new media be the avatar that can purge our nation from corruption?” 
A debate team should consist of two members who is speaking for and against the topic. 

Both the members of a team should speak either in English or in Malayalam.

Each team member will get a time of 5 mts for their presentation. 

The competition will be concluded by an open discussion.

Greetings from Sacred Heart College, Kochi!

​Sacred Heart college is completing two years of autonomy in 2016. It various bodies the Governing Council, the Academic Council and the Boards of Studies, had been very insistent that we have to have periodical interface with the industry and the business world so that the curriculum could take care of the expectations of job providers as well.
We believe it would be the right time to have this done. Accordingly, we have scheduled Oct 27th Thursday for our industry interface.
The interface is meant to serve the following purposes:

  • To present the programmes, curricular inputs and student profile before the leading employers of the city
  • To gather insights regarding attributes the employers expect from the employees as a preparatory in put for the next round of curricular revision
  • To gather inputs regarding industry relevant courses (add-ons) and programmes (New programmes).
  • To find possible avenues for industry-institute collaboration – e.g., CSR, Research, Internships and Placements.

We are very glad to let you know that our alumni association - AASH (Alumni Association of Sacred Heart College) is gradually growing with new branches being established in different parts of the world. We already have chapters or small groups in US (Chicago, New York, Washington/Maryland, Florida, Houston), UAE, Qatar, New Delhi and Chennai.

Bangalore has many heartians, and with Christ University and Dharamaram College being our sister concerns, formation of the Bangalore Chapter is long overdue.

Together with IAPT, we are organizing a special talk on Quantum Mechanics for PG students, selected third year UG students and for the faculty members of the college. The talk is scheduled to be held on 29 August, 2016, Prof. Waghmare will discuss the topic Einstein Vs Bohr via Heizenberg in the morning session. The event will be attended by Prof. Thankappen (Former, HOD, Dept. of Physics, Calicut University).

The main talk will be followed by an interactive session by both eminent personalities during which they will be answering questions (on QM) from the audience. In the afternoon, Prof. Waghmare will deliver his second talk on the topic Quantum Theory and Consciousness. This is intended for for medical professionals, research scholars and students of philosophy.

1. Students should abide by the rules and regulations of the Motor Vehicle Department.

2. Students should reach the campus by 09:25 am (forenoon) and 12:25 pm (afternoon). Enter the campus through the new gate only (south gate).

3. Entry to the lake view grounds is strictly prohibited.

4. Students should maintain a speed of 10 km/hr within the campus, and park their vehicles only in the students parking area.

5. No student is permitted to leave the campus during class hours.

The Department of English, Sacred Heart College, Thevara is organizing a two day National Seminar on life-writing on 28th and 29th March 2016. The seminar titled 'Inscribing Life: Life Writing across Cultures and Times' is part of the annual Dr. Dan Thottakkara Memorial Seminar series which was started in the year 2000 as a tribute to Rev. Dr. Dan Thottakara who was a member of  the department and also served as Principal of the college from 1988 to 1991.

The seminar seeks to explore the theoretical and experiential aspects of life writing across various languages and cultures. The often fuzzy line between fiction and factual accounts of lives, the wide ambit of life writing under the aegis of new (social) media and the encounter of life-writing with various theories and post-theories will be the foci of the seminar. The event features  invited lectures by eminent scholars from all over India.

Youth Leadership Internship Programme

The Kerala State Marketing Federation is organising a youth leadership  internship programme for consistently performing second year postgraduate students. Apart from the high quality training, there is  a likelihood of absorption into job for a sizable number of students trained.

General Instructions 

1. It is a one month residential programme funded by The Kerala State Co-operative Marketing Federation Ltd (Marketfed),  Kochi, starting from May 2nd to May 31st 2016.
2. The programme includes Academic sessions, leadership, skill development programmes, book review, project report, syndicate reports, debates, tours, communication skills, and providing attachments with various organizations.
3. Once enrolled in the program leave will not be allowed unless there is any emergency.
4. Application fee is Rs 300/- which can be paid by DD taken in favor of “The Kerala State Co-operative Marketing Federation  Ltd” payable at Ernakulam.
5. For SC/ST/Physically Handicapped candidates, the application fee is Rs.100/ only.

1. Initial Screen will be based on the educational performances of the students from 10th standard onwards, five students from each district (5 X 14 = 70). 15 students from SC/ST (20% of  30 X 2.5). 2 students from Physically Handicapped category (3% of 30 X 2.5). Total = 87 candidates.
2. Short listed 87 candidates will be called for an interview. There will be enough weight age for students with extracurricular activities.
3. Final list will be with at least 2 students from each district.

  • Roles and Responsibilities of a Gandhi Fellow: As a catalyst for school change each Fellow plans, executes and transforms 5 schools. The Fellow is a resource person for the school principals and potentially impacts the lives of 1,000 children. Fellows assist teachers and identify when and where Headmasters (Principals) need extra support. All this with one aim: to improve the Student Learning Outcome (SLO) of the school for which the Fellow is responsible.

  • Incentives: For the duration of the two years, the Fellows will be provided with a rent free accommodation, shared motor bikes, computers/tablets, internet facility and cook. A monthly grant of 600 ₹ will be provided to cover the cost of phone bill. Additionally a monthly stipend of 7,000 ₹ will be provided. Upon the completion of the Fellowship a seed capital of 1,61,000 will be provided by the organization to the Fellow.

    Quiz is organised for college students. Each college may send a team of two students to represent the college in the quiz competition. The preliminary round  will be a written test conducted at 2:00 P. M. on 26 February, 2016. Based on which four teams will be selected for the final round which will be held at 3.00 P. M. on the same day.
    The Department of Botany is organizing an exhibition cum sale of hand made products, vegetable seedlings, flowers, medicinal plants etc. at Marian Hall on 15 February, 2016.
    FERMIO, a two-day open exhibition organised by Dept. of Physics will be held on 18th and 19th of February 2016. FERMIO focuses in bringing together science aspirants who could be people from anywhere and who does not necessarily need a science.

    The exhibition is going to be set up on lake view ground and Marian hall and will be open to public.

    Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)
    Sacred Heart College, Thevara has been selected for conducting INSPIRE Internship Programme 2016 launched by the Government of India to strengthen the National Science and Technology base. It is being implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). INSPIRE is one such innovative programme proposed by DST for attracting young talents to science. The basic objective of INSPIRE is to communicate to the youth population of the country the excitements of creative pursuit of science at an early stage, build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening Science & Technology system and R&D base. This programme is organized by SH College for the sixth time.
    This year, students will be given opportunity to interact with Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, 2010

    a.  Top one percent ranking in the X Board Examination for all Boards in the country. (SSLC 94.6 % (Total Grade Point 86 and above) /CBSC CGPA – A1(CGPA 9.6 and above)/ ICSC 95%)

    Dance club of SH College organises a live dance performance 'Water in Kerala' on 21 and 22 August at the college. 
    The New batch of Civil Service Coaching Classes will begin on 1st August 2015 at Sacred Heart College Thevara. The classes are conceived as Add on Courses conducted on Saturdays and Sundays, getting completed in three years.

    PG SESSIONS 2015-16 Inauguration 

    Hrdyarambham 2015-16 for PG programmes will take place with solemn prayers in the monastery chapel at 9 A.M. on 10.07.2015 (Friday) followed by Orientation Programme in  the auditorium.
    A few seats are vacant in SC/ST quota in all subjects except B Com Taxation (Aided). Interested applicants may report to the college office on or  before July 2, 2015,  12 P.M. with all necessary original documents.
