Fathima A. Won A Third Place In FIDE Rated International Chess Tournament
Fathima A. BA English (I year) has participated in the FIDE rated International Chess Tournament conducted at Thrissur. She got 5.5 points from 8 rounds and won a third prize in the woman category, with a cash award of Rs. 2000. The win helped her to increase her FIDE rating to 59 points.

Botany Association Inauguration 2018-19
Botany Association inauguration has been conducted on 20th July 2018. Famous organic farmer cum germplasm conservator, Mr.Pradeep Praphakbar was the chief guest and he delivered an excellent lecture on "Healthy lifestyle (human synchrony with nature) ".

The presidential address was delivered by Fr. Dr.Jose John CMI (Vice-principal & HoD Dept. of Botany). Botany association secretary, Atheenie Prince felicitated the function. The annual news letter from the department, BOTANICA 2018 has been released during the function.

The association inauguration was done by planting a tree (Calophyllum inophyllum) in the college campus.

National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of SH College, Thevara, Kochi to organises a programme titled 'NATTARIVU' from 15th to 17th of February 2018. The programme consists of Exhibitions, Workshops, Competitions and Performances relating to our tradition and culture. The programme also aims at sensitising the young generation regarding organic farming, eco friendliness etc. and the need to create a new way of life for subsistence and sustenance.

The event is planned in association with ‘Kerala Folklore Academy’ and ‘M S Swaminathan Research Foundation – Community Agro Bio Diversity Centre, Wayanad’.

The 74th College day celebrations and PTA Awards Day will be held in the college auditorium at 10.30 AM on 14th February, 2018.

Zoology -1998-2001), now working as Staff Scientist at Baylor College of Medicine (Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology), Houston, Texas, USA, will deliver a talk on “Immunotherapy for the treatment of solid tumors” at 2:30 pm in Marian Hall.Dr. Sujith has vast research experience in immunology and vaccinology, especially translational research focusing on adoptive immunotherapy with gene-modified effector cells (CAR T-cells) to improve therapy for solid tumors, developing novel CAR molecules for multiple targeting of tumor antigens and delineate role of tumor microenvironment in anti-tumor responses of CAR T-cells.

About Inspire:  It aims at strengthening the knowledge of the talented students and expanding their horizon in science research. Also it intends to nurture the young talents who have inquisitiveness for research and are budding geniuses in science and technology. It paves way for the empowerment of scientific sector of our country. This camp provides an excellent opportunity for science aspirants to commune with the renowned scientists and to participate in seminars and lectures by eminent personalities.

About this camp: The Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Kochi is organizing a five day residential camp INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) from 9th to 13th of January 2018. This programme is being implemented by the sponsorship from Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. This camp is organised by Department of Physics with academic inputs form Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics  and Zoology departments of Sacred Heart College.

Who can attend: This residential camp is for the XI students from the state of Kerala and UT of Mahe, who are currently pursuing science subject(s) in their higher secondary course in the ongoing academic year and not attended such camps earlier. 200 students will be selected, from the applicants, according to the selection criteria set by DST. Interested students who meet the eligibility criteria may register their interest by submitting an application via e-mail to inspire@shcollege.ac.in. Mentors: Scientists from IIT, IISER, & national institutes from India.

Important notes: All expenses of the participants will be met by DST. Participating students and institutions have no financial liability on their parts. Sacred Heart College, is organising an INSPIRE Internship Camp from 09-01-2018 - 13.01.2018. The camp is open to current XI science students who fall in the top 1% of those who passed the respective class X board exams.

The basic objective of INSPIRE is to communicate to the youth population of the country the excitements of creative pursuit of science and attract talent to the study of science.
