The Department of Environmental Studies, in association with the ENCON Club, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), organised an awareness and interaction programme titled “The Guardians of Green, Champions of Change” as part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmental consciousness and youth leadership on 16 January 2026. The session was conducted with the objective of inspiring students to actively participate in climate action, sustainability initiatives, and responsible citizenship.
The programme was led by Mr. Vinayak Mahadev Salunkhe, Senior Manager – Outreach at Earth Day Network, Mumbai, who delivered an engaging and thought-provoking session highlighting the urgent need for individual and collective action in addressing environmental challenges. The talk emphasised the role of youth as change-makers in combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, promoting sustainable lifestyles, and driving community-based environmental solutions.
Drawing from his extensive experience with Earth Day Network and global climate initiatives, the speaker shared real-world examples of youth-led environmental movements, innovative climate solutions, and leadership opportunities at national and international levels. The session also introduced students to platforms such as the Young Climate Champions Programme, encouraging them to transform ideas into impactful environmental projects.
The programme successfully motivated participants to reflect on their role as environmental stewards and reinforced the importance of proactive engagement in sustainability-driven actions aligned with global environmental goals.
