The Department of Botany, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara, in association with the Primrose Nature Club, organized a vegetable seedling distribution programme titled “Seedlings to Harvest Health” on 11 August 2025 at 12:30 PM in the Principal’s Office Corridor. Centered around the theme “Start small, grow green: From our hands to your home,” the event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Biju C. S., Principal of Sacred Heart College. The initiative, coordinated by Dr. Aghil Soorya A., aimed to promote home gardening, strengthen food security, encourage sustainable living, foster environmental awareness, and build a healthier community. A total of 948 vegetable seedlings, including varieties such as beans, tomato, okra, chilly, brinjal, and green and red spinach, were distributed to 91 participants comprising students, faculty, and staff from both the Central and East campuses. To assist participants, an informative pamphlet containing guidelines on seedling care, pest management, and disease control was also provided. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation and positive feedback, highlighting the collective commitment toward sustainability and self-sufficiency. Moreover, the students of the Department of Botany gained valuable hands-on experience and practical knowledge in vegetable seedling preparation through their active involvement in the event. Overall, the programme was a significant step toward fostering environmental responsibility and reflected the college’s enduring dedication to promoting a greener and healthier community.
