The Botany department of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara inaugurated Botany association 2025-26 and conducted an invited lecture on "Nature's silent indicators-Lichens" on 10/09/2025, Wednesday at Marian Hall from 1.30 pm to 4.00 pm. Dr. Stephen Sequiera, Associate professor, Department of Botany, Maharaja's college, Ernakulam served as the chief guest. The programme commenced with a prayer. Dr. Aghil Soorya A., Association Coordinator delivered the welcome speech and Ms. Elza Mariam Abraham, Association Secretory delivered the presidential address. Mr. Ebin P. J., Head of the department delivered felicitation. Teaching and non-teaching faculties, UG and PG students and alumni members of the department participated in the ceremony. During the inauguration the Botany Association Logo launch and a Department Manuscript 'Taliru' release was done by our esteemed chief guest. Following the celebration, a lecture on ‘Nature's silent indicators-Lichens’ was taken by the Dr. Stephen Sequiera. The session was highly informative, explaining their habitat, types, adaptability, its applications in varied streams such as in medicine, industries, and their role as biological indicators of air pollution. The session also inspired the students with their research opportunities in them. The session was followed by an active discussion after which the chief guest, Dr. Stephen Sequiera was honored with a memento. Former students of the department who had qualified CSIR JRF/NET, GATE, SET – 2025, class rank holders and were honored with special recognitions for their academic excellence. The program held beautifully reflected the spirit of unity promoted by the Association, bringing everyone together and making the event a grand success. It also provided valuable insights about Lichen and its significance, enhancing the understanding of all participants. Moreover, the participation and recognition of alumni members inspired the present students to follow their path of achievement and dedication. Towards the conclusion of the ceremony, note of gratitude was delivered by Association joint secretary Ms. Liya Haslin P. The programme ended with national anthem followed by refreshments.
