Lecture on Green Chemistry
The Department of Environmental Studies organized a guest lecture on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Development with the objective of creating awareness among students and faculty about the importance of adopting environmentally benign chemical practices. The session aimed to inspire participants to integrate sustainability into research and academic activities.
The programme began with a welcome address by the Head of the Department, followed by an enlightening talk by Dr. Ram Mohan, Fulbright Specialist and Professor of Chemistry at Illinois Wesleyan University. Dr. Mohan elaborated on the principles of Green Chemistry, emphasizing the need to reduce chemical hazards, prevent pollution at the source, and promote the use of renewable materials in both research and industry. He highlighted how environmentally friendly innovations can contribute significantly to combating climate change and achieving sustainable development goals.
Drawing on his international research experience, Dr. Mohan presented real-world case studies that illustrated the practical applications of green practices in modern chemical processes. The lecture greatly enhanced the participants’ understanding of Green Chemistry, stimulated interest in sustainable research approaches, and offered valuable academic exposure through interaction with a distinguished global scholar. Overall, the session strengthened the department’s commitment to promoting sustainability-driven education and research.
