Kochi | 30 August 2026 — Fr. Joseph Varghese, CMI, a member of the Sacred Heart Province, Kochi, and faculty member and Chief Financial Officer at Sacred Heart College, Thevara, has embarked on a bicycle journey from Kochi to Kasaragod as part of an awareness campaign against drug abuse.

Beginning his journey from Kochi on Thiruvonam Day, Fr. Joseph reached Kannur on Saturday. Through the cycling expedition, he aims to promote a message of a drug-free society, particularly among young people.

A passionate cyclist since his school days, Fr. Joseph has undertaken several long-distance cycling journeys, including cycling trips during his studies in Bengaluru and Mumbai. He has also accompanied students on cycling journeys to help them become familiar with new environments while pursuing higher studies abroad.

Last year, he undertook a notable cycling expedition from Kochi to Kanyakumari, including a visit to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.

Despite his busy professional responsibilities, Fr. Joseph dedicates his holidays to cycling expeditions. His dream is to undertake an All-India cycling journey. He is also associated with the Kerala Government's Operation THUFAN, supporting efforts to combat drug abuse.
