"Waste to Wonder – Transforming Waste into Creativity"


As part of the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations, the Department of Life Sciences (Zoology & Botany), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), organised the creative competition “Waste to Wonder – Transforming Waste into Creativity” on 5 June 2026 at 9:30 AM in Marian Hall. The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices through the creative reuse of waste materials.

A total of 15 students participated, presenting innovative products made from newspapers, plastic containers, cardboard, fabric scraps, and other recyclable items. Their exhibits reflected creativity, artistic talent, and environmental responsibility while highlighting the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and supporting Sustainable Development Goal 12.

Following evaluation based on creativity, utility, innovation, and environmental relevance, Ms. Eirene Antony, Third Year B.Sc. Zoology, won the First Prize and received a cash award of ₹500. The programme successfully inspired students to explore creative solutions for sustainable waste management.
