Dr. Amitha Unnikrishnan is an Environmental Researcher and Assistant Professor with more than six years of experience in environmental research, specializing in water quality assessment, emerging contaminants, and environmental monitoring. She earned her PhD in Environmental Studies from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), where her research focused on the occurrence, distribution, fate, and ecological risks of emerging pollutants in freshwater ecosystems, particularly in South Indian river systems.
Her expertise encompasses the analysis of pharmaceuticals, personal care products (PPCPs), endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), and phthalates in aquatic environments. She is skilled in advanced analytical techniques and instrumentation, including LC-MS/MS, LC-QTOF-MS, and Ion Chromatography, and has extensive experience in environmental sampling, data analysis, and risk assessment.
Prior to her academic career, she worked at ULTRA TECH Environmental Consultancy, where she gained practical experience in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), environmental monitoring, environmental management plans, and regulatory compliance studies for various development projects.
Dr. Amitha holds an MSc in Environmental Science from Sacred Heart College, Thevara, and a BSc in Chemistry (Environment and Water Management) from Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. In addition to her research achievements, she has experience in teaching, student mentoring, project supervision, and academic administration. She has guided postgraduate students in their research work and is committed to promoting environmental awareness and scientific inquiry.
She has presented her research findings at numerous national and international conferences and has been recognized with three Best Paper Awards for her outstanding research contributions. She has also published several peer-reviewed research articles in reputed high-impact journals. Her areas of interest include water pollution control, environmental risk assessment, sustainable water resource management, environmental monitoring, Environmental Impact Assessment, and environmental education.
