World Mental Health Day 2020

The Department of Psychology organized a webinar on 10th October 2020 on the topic ”Saniti-zing the Mind: Anchoring Lives in the Pandemic World” in connection with World Mental Health Day. The resource person for the day was Dr. Chandrashekharan Nair, MBBS, MD(Psychiatry) Director, Head of Psychiatry, Nair’s Hospital, Cochin. There is a soaring rise in the emotional distress and mental health illness during the pandemic. The objective of the webinar was to sensitize students about the essential need for building better mental health and promoting well-being. He emphasized on the importance of mental health and how its decline can affect us. He also discussed various mental disorders such as anxiety disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, addiction, schizophrenia and its warning signs. He also provided an insight about depression, its prevalence, difference between sadness and depression, environmental factors associated with it and how to cope with it. He projected a clear understanding about mental health first aids as well. The webinar was concluded with a Q & A session.
