Department of Mathematics

Established in 1944, the department of Mathematics has trained thousands of students in its distinguished undergraduate course in Mathematics. The Department was initially under the University of Madras and subsequently got affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. In 1999, the post-graduate programme was started and today it is one of its most buoyant courses. The team of highly qualified faculty aims to develop a Centre of Excellence in Mathematical Science and inter disciplinary Mathematics. Several new initiatives in this direction have taken shape over the last few years and has enabled students to develop a focused approach to their curriculum and develop themselves into national and international leagues. During the course period they study pure and applied mathematics, the foundations of mathematical physics and statistics through which the students develop quantitative skills and ability to think clearly and critically about complex problems.

The department has produced many rank holders. Statistics indicate that almost 90% of the undergraduate students pursue their higher studies and more than 80% of the post graduate students are being placed in companies and institutions. Moreover, the department encourages overall development of its students. It is proud of several of its students winning sports championships at university level. The Department also excels in various cultural events and many of its students have won numerous awards.

Library and Lab:
The department is equipped with a state-of-the-art reference library having over 2500 books, together with periodicals and journals which are freely accessible to the students. In all its activities, the library seeks to participate in the academic program of the course and reflect its philosophy of education. The students also have access to a well-furnished computer lab for their use. Innovative teaching technologies such as the use of interactive boards in the department enable the students to develop their learning capabilities and get a global perspective.
