This is the largest department in the college having two postgraduate courses, two graduate courses and two doctoral research centres under Mahatma Gandhi University. The department has succeeded in producing several rank holders in the University examinations at the graduate and postgraduate levels. The department is a pioneer in Kerala to start the UGC sponsored vocational B.Sc (Industrial Chemistry) course with double main, Industrial Chemistry & General Chemistry.
The laboratories are equipped with sophisticated equipments to cope with the present needs of higher education and research. The department undertakes 'consultancy work and aids research activities. The department has also signed Memoranda of Understanding with leading industrial concerns in Kerala to provide in-plant training for its students and for doing project work. A Placement Cell has started functioning in the department to co-ordinate the activities and to provide placement to the students in various industrial concerns. In its 50 year history, the department has contributed significantly to the field of higher education. The Department conducts regular Endowment Lectures on modern trends and developments in. chemical studies. The Association of the former students, Chemistry Alumni actively participates in the various activities of the department. The department has always striven to achieve excellence in all fields of its activities.
