Department of Aquaculture- Est. 1994

Sacred Heart College Thevara, as part of its Golden Jubilee (1994-95) started the Centre for Aquaculture Studies, to meet the increasing demand for well qualified and trained technical managers required by various branches of aquaculture industry. Since its inception, the department has been offering Post Graduate Diploma in Aquaculture.

The faculty consists of three regular members and five scientists. Being  a multidisciplinary subject, specialists from National Research Institutes and organizations like Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute Cochin, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology Cochin and National Bureau of Fish Genetics, Lucknow also impart classes on specialised areas.

M.Sc. Aquaculture and Fish Processing is a four semester (Two year) job-oriented P.G. course. Started in 2004 it is a self financing vocationalised course, in which the students are given on - the job training in various sea food processing plants and aquaculture farms in order to equip them for employment as successful researchers, managers and supervisors. The post graduates of Aquacutture and Fish Processing will find suitable and attractive placements in research institutions, govt.agencies, shrimp farms/ fish farms and fish processing centres in public and, private sector. They ate also given training in entrepreneurship to become self-employed in commercial enterprises.
