Arrival and Accommodation

Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Kochi is 2 kms. away from Ernakulam junction railway station. For precise direction please check Google map.

City buses are also available from Ernakulam Railways Station. You may board the bus plying to Thevara Ferry directly and disembark at college bus stop. Buses usually take 10 to 15 minutes to reach our college from Ernakulum south.

Accommodation will be arranged on request outside the campus. Please inform via mail in advance for accommodation registration. Expenses to be borne by the participants.

Food

Please note that lunch and refreshments will be served during TWO seminar days. No breakfast and dinner will be arranged for the attendees of the seminar. However participants can avail breakfast and dinner from our college canteen .

FERMIO, a two-day open exhibition organised by Dept. of Physics will be held on 18th and 19th of February 2016. The birthday of the second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, is celebrated as teacher's day in India to honour and acknowledge the contribution made by countless number of teachers in helping and moulding the careers of lakhs of students and in turn shaping the destiny of India. Dr. Radhakrishnan was a great scholar, philosopher and teacher of modern India. He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1954. A good teacher has greater influence in shaping the life of an individual even more than his/her parents. As you know "Acharya Devo Bhava" is our culture. Let's join together this Saturday to establish our respect and love towards our beloved teachers.
Conceived as the family cultural feast of the college which is showcased before the main stake-holders – students, parents and management of the college. It was initiated in 1990, when Dr. Varghese Palamattam CMI was the Principal.
Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara was a Syrian Catholic saint and social reformer.
Sargapatham is a literary pentathlon initiated in the year 1995, and henceforth held uninterruptedly, under the leadership of the student advisor, the speakers’ forum, writers’ forum and quiz club. It is an inter-collegiate event, and a flag ship programme of S.H.

Fr. Zacharias Payikat Endowment lecture
Department organized Fr. Zacharias Payikat Endowment lecture on “Impact of Demonetisation on Economic Growth With Special Reference to Kerala” on 07/02/2017 at 10 am. Prof. Dr. D Narayana, Director, Gulati Institute of Public Finance and Taxation, Thiruvananthapuram delivered Fr. Zacharias Payikat Endowment lecture on “Impact of Demonetisation on Economic Growth With Special Reference to Kerala” . Fr. Zacharias Payikat also spoke on the occasion. Dr. D. Narayana’s contention was that demonetization would affect unorganized sector of the economy very badly and would depress the economic growth. He showed it by analyzing data on Indian economy with statistical tools.

In connection with this lecture, Department in association with Kerala Cartoon Academy organized a cartoon exhibition on “Demonetization”.

SH College secured Paristhithi Mitra Award 2017
Paristhiti Mitra award instituted by St. Stephen's College Uzhavoor, through its wing for environment protection CEERD was conferred upon Sacred Heart College (autonomous) for the year 2016-17.  The committee took into account the consistent efforts of the college to spread awareness, educate students in environment friendliness and unique effort to promote a green productive culture through paddy cultivation, one cent farming, participation in suchitwa mission and waste management.  The award was given away by Rev. Fr. Michael, Vicar General of Kottayam Diocese in the presence of film director Sri Jayaraj.  Principal Dr. Fr. Prasant Palakkappillil received the award on behalf of the college.

Listen First is this year's motto by the United Nations. It says listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.

Classes for the UG students 2017-2020 batch started today with a colorful inaugural ceremony. Manager Rev. Dr. Augustin Thottakkara inaugurated the event and made a wonderful speech. Fr. Asst. Prof. Rajesh James (Dept. of English) won two awards for his latest short film "Naked Wheels" at the KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival. It is one of the top five LGBT film festival in the world. KASHISH means attraction/allurement in Urdu.

Asst. Prof. Pius Augustine's Research Visit to Japan
Asst. Prof. Pius Augustine (Dept. of Physics) got an opportunity to do research in Shibaura Institute of Technology, Tokyo. The research programme was sponsored by by Global University Project, a programme by Govt of Japan. It was an exchange programme between IIT Madras and SIT Japan, to promote research collaboration and joint publications. The field of work- Relaxor response of Sr2+ doped PMN-PT ceramic in the morphotropic phase boundary. (Material Research) He worked in the lab of Prof. Masato Murakami (President of Shibaura Institute of Technology), a world famous figure in the field of superconductivity and was the first one to demonstrate superconducting levitation of a human being in the world. Prof. Murakami was also a scientific adviser to Govt. of Japan.

Collaboration between SIT and SH Thevara

SIT has agreed to make MoU on the research collaboration and joint publication between S.H college and SIT. It might take few months to work out the modalities. We also had discussion with the authorities of Sophia university on student and/or faculty exchange to have cultural exchange and joint research.
